Professional pressure washing requires commercial-grade equipment, the knowledge to select the correct pressure setting for each surface, and where necessary the use of appropriate detergents to break down organic growth before the pressure wash begins. Using the wrong pressure on certain surfaces — particularly older stone, soft brick, or painted render — can cause damage, which is why it's always worth using an experienced operator rather than a hired domestic machine.

Pressure washing is done methodically, working across the surface to lift dirt, moss, and algae without cutting into the paving. Attention is given to the joints, where most of the organic growth sits. Any remaining debris is cleared fully before moving on.

Once the area is clean and dry, new jointing material is applied. For block paving, this typically involves brushing in kiln-dried sand to fill every gap and stabilise the surface. On patios, the correct jointing compound is used depending on the spacing and condition of the slabs.
